Welcome to spring.
The equinox occurred just after 3 a.m. as the sun’s most direct rays passed over the equator and will continue to move further north in the coming months.
Not much change to the weather pattern with the new season.
In fact, we’ll be slightly “cooler” than Wednesday in Edmonton and across eastern Alberta.
That said - we’ll still be a handful of degrees above zero today and Friday in the city with a weekend warming trend looming.
We do have some flurries in the Peace Country and west of Edmonton early this morning.
That trough of low pressure will gradually slide east through the day bringing increasing cloudcover and a slight chance of a few insignificant flurries to the Edmonton region midday.
There’s also a slight risk of a few wet flurries in the area late this evening.
Neither chance of precipitation looks like it has the potential to bring any significant moisture or accumulation to the region.
Another area of wet snow will develop in the foothills Friday night as a low pressure system develops over central Alberta.
It looks like the best chance for precipitation will be in the Drayton Valley/Red Deer areas. But, there’s a slight risk of some flurries in the Edmonton region late Friday night/early Saturday morning.
Again - no significant accumulation is anticipated.
We should get a bit of clearing for Sunday and afternoon highs will climb into the 7 to 11 degree range through the weekend and into early next week.
There DOES appear to be a bit of a cooldown coming for the mid to end of next week, but nothing too drastic...just back to the 0 to 5 degree range for highs.
