An Edmonton man is accused of accessing a dark web site called "Kidflix."

A worldwide crackdown on child pornography resulted in the arrest of an Edmonton man in March.

Europol, German police and the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre told local authorities an Edmonton man was allegedly accessing Kidflix, “an online streaming service known to be one of the largest platforms for sharing child sexual abuse material in the world,” according to Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).

Police conducted a search warrant in southeast Edmonton on March 10, seized electronic devices and charged a 36-year-old man with accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography.

The man, who police did not name, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 14.

More than 35 countries participated in Operation Stream and 79 suspects were arrested.

“While many people believe they can hide in these corners of the dark web, the online world is not anonymous,” said ALERT Det. Erik Bjarnason.

“Law enforcement continues to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of online criminal behavior. Successes like this are fueled by dedicated investigators working with partners around the world to protect the children that have been victimized in the production of this material.”
