Canada captain Alphonso Davies tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, FC Bayern Munich has confirmed.

The Edmontonian was substituted off 12 minutes into the Concacaf Nations League third-place match against the United States on Sunday.

The German club said in a statement Davies will undergo surgery Wednesday and miss “several months.”

ACL rehab takes up to a year.

“Phonzy will get all the support he needs on his road to recovery,” FC Bayern said in a statement.

Canada beat the United States 2-1.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be played in Canada, Mexico and the U.S., starts June 11 of that year.
