Nestlé Canada has initiated a nation-wide recall and discontinuation of the Gerber Soothe ‘N’ Chew Teething Sticks due to “a potential choking hazard for babies and young kids.”
This recall was initiated voluntarily, a statement from the food and beverage company said Friday.
The recall is limited to Gerber’s Banana and Strawberry Apple flavoured Teething Sticks.
“We’ve received a number of consumer complaints, none of which included serious injuries, and are taking this action out of an abundance of caution,” Nestlé Canada said.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been made aware of this voluntary recall as the company arranges for the products to be pulled from stores and online retailers across Canada.
In its statement, the CFIA said “There have been reported choking incidents associated with the consumption of these products.”
Consumers who have purchased these products are advised to dispose of the product and not feed it to their children.
They are asked to contact Nestlé customer services at 1-800-387-5536 for reimbursement.
The company has apologized for “any concern or inconvenience this action represents to parents, caregivers and retail customers.”
