“The city of Calgary and the province of Alberta have always held a very special place in my heart,” Twain said in a news release.
”The Calgary Stampede is an amazing celebration of Western heritage and culture and embodies the true spirit of Calgarians and Canadians. I look forward to being part of it again, not only playing at the Saddledome on the first Saturday of Stampede, but also on horseback riding through the streets of downtown Calgary.”
The Calgary Stampede made the announcement on Wednesday, which is 100 days before parade day.
“As a Canadian icon who has captivated audiences worldwide, Shania embodies the grit, passion and celebration that defines the Stampede,” said Stuart O’Connor, Stampede president and board chairman, in a release.
“We can’t wait to see her lead the parade and share this unforgettable moment with our community, as well as visitors and viewers from around the world.”
The parade is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 4.
Twain last performed at the Stampede in 2014.
