RCMP have closed a road in Kananaskis Country as part of a missing person investigation.

The closure is at the junction of Highway 40 where it turns into Highway 541 and Highway 940, near Highwood House.

Turner Valley Mounties, Calgary Police Service and the Calgary Search and Rescue Association are looking for 50-year-old Maxwell James Mayling.

RCMP say Mayling was last seen in Calgary on April 4 and authorities believe he left the city to hike in Kananaskis.

His vehicle, a maroon 2009 Buick Enclave, was located on Highway 40 near the park gate at Highwood Junction.

"Maxwell's family is concerned for his well being," Mounties said in a statement Saturday afternoon.

Police describe him as being 6'0" (1.8 metres) tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds (82 kilograms) with brown hair and eyes.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
