Police lay charges in December 2024 fatal crash

Police have charged a teenager with impaired driving after a fatal crash on Glenmore Trail.

Calgary police say a 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred last year.

Officials say Kane Anignostis Burrows was behind the wheel of a BMW that collided with a manned stationary crane positioned at the side of Glenmore Trail S.W. on Dec. 23, 2024.

Police say Burrows failed to negotiate a bend in the road and drove into the right-hand shoulder lane, hitting the crane.

An 18-year-old passenger was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition but later died in hospital.

Another passenger, 21, suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The operator of the crane, a man in his 30s, was not hurt.

Burrows is charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing injury, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing injuries and driving while prohibited.

He is expected in court on April 11.
