Many passengers flying in and out of Calgary were affected by Monday afternoon’s crash at Pearson International Airport.
A Delta Airlines plane with 80 people on board crashed on landing at Pearson, ending up on its roof.
A total of 18 people were injured.
All arrivals and departures were shut down at Pearson for hours following the crash, forcing the diversion of hundreds of planes.
The resulting delays and cancellations were felt at YYC.
Some passengers CTV News spoke to at YYC were already facing delays due to the weather in Toronto.
But the crash affected things even more for many who are supposed to fly from Calgary to Pearson.
Some people stuck at YYC were working with agents to figure out when they could get home.
Seeing videos and images of a plane upside down on the runway at Pearson, however, was rattling some nerves.
“Knowing that there was a plane that just came down and crashed is kind of nerve-racking, getting on another plane, but, I mean, I guess we’ll see,” said Ethan Firsoff, whose flight to Toronto was delayed.
“I’m a nervous flier anyway, doing this job of trying to get more used to flying, but it’s a little intense, a little more nervous going into Toronto tonight,” said Terry Frank, whose flight was also delayed.
Two of the runways at Pearson were closed to allow for an investigation into Monday’s incident, but officials reopened three.
They were warning delays would stretch into Tuesday and likely for the next several days.
The Calgary Airport Authority was reminding people to check the status of their flights before coming to YYC.
