Calgary’s police chief says photo radar traffic enforcement could return to more locations around the city.
Police Chief Mark Neufeld told CTV Morning Live on Tuesday that police are waiting for more guidance from the province on where photo radar could be set up.
“I mean, it’s obviously very efficient for us to be able to use technology instead of officers to do enforcement in some of those locations where we can demonstrate that we’ve got a high number of collisions or speeds are very high,” Neufeld said.
Late last year, the province eliminated the cameras from most locations, except for schools, playground and construction zones.
The elimination of photo radar locations led to a $28 million shortfall in the city police budget.
Neufeld said he wants photo radar at high-collision intersections.
