A Calgary man says he put off claiming his $1 million lottery prize for several months because of the cold.
Laszlo Kovacs won his prize in a Nov. 20 Lotto 6-49 gold ball draw. He said he couldn’t believe it when he scanned his ticket and learned about his win in December.
“But it was very cold,” Kovacs said in a Friday news release. “I don’t like to drive far when it’s like that.”
So, he held off on claiming his win until the weather warmed up.
“I still can’t wrap my head around it; it definitely makes life easier,” he said.
Kovacs said he was raised to save money, so he’s not planning on buying anything extravagant.
“I may go on a trip, though; I would love to go to Croatia,” he said, adding, “I do cheer for a lot of football [soccer] teams, and I’d like to see one if I can.”
Kovacs bought his ticket from the Sandstone Pharmacy located at 4-3525 26 Avenue S.E. in Calgary. He won with the selection 31765145-01, a white ball.
