It must be spring: Golf balls fill the air at 3 Calgary courses as annual golf show takes flight at BMO Centre

Blue Devil, Serenity and Heatherglen all opened up on Friday on regular greens, and the annual Golf Show runs this weekend at Calgary’s BMO Centre.

It must be spring because starting Saturday, golf balls are in the air at a trio of Calgary courses.

Blue Devil, Serenity and Heather Glen all opened Saturday on regular greens, and the annual PGA of Alberta Golf Show is on this weekend at the BMO Centre. Eleven different clubs have gotten together to sell clothing and shoes at a big discount.

There will be plenty of simulators set up as well, so visitors can swing a few clubs and try to wipe away that winter swing rust.

Friday, things kicked off with a media/pro driving contest that featured CTV’s Glenn Campbell, who teamed up with Shelley Charlton, head pro at Pinebrook.

Campbell gave it his all and ended up with a third-place finish that was won by Fan 960’s George Rusic and Matt Seifert of Golf Fanatics, who defeated Fan morning man Matty Rose and Greg Johnson of Golf Fanatics in the finals.

“One of the big changes at the golf show is the main manufacturers area,” said Inglewood Golf and Curling Club executive director and general manager Jason Stanier, “where manufacturers let customers come in and try some clubs.

“We’ve got simulators this year,” he added, “so we’ve got six simulators just to improve that experience. We’ve got a tonne of things going on in the junior area here and we really tried to focus on a family environment.”

The PGA of Alberta Golf Show opened at 9 a.m. and opens at 10 a.m. Sunday at the BMO Centre.
