Calgary Flames prospect Zayne Parekh has joined some rare company, becoming just the 10th defenceman in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) history to reach 100 points.

Parekh netted his 32nd goal of the season during a Thursday night contest against the Barrie Colts to notch his 100th point.

He is the first OHL defenceman to reach 100 points since Ryan Ellis in 2010-11.

The Flames drafted Parekh ninth overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

The 19-year-old has been scoring at a blistering pace in the OHL, hitting the century mark in 58 games with 32 goals and 68 assists as a member of the Saginaw Spirit.

Parekh is the first defenceman in Spirit history to reach 100 points.

He joins Ellis, Bryan Fogarty (1988-89), Jamie Rivers (1993-94), Scott MacLellan (1982-83), Bruce Cassidy (1982-83), Shawn Evans (1983-84), Bill McCauley (1994-95) and Chris Felix (1984-85) and Rik Wilson (1980-81) as the 10 OHL defenders who have reached 100 points.

Parekh also recently became the second defenceman in OHL/OHA history with multiple 30-goal seasons – the first was Bobby Orr with the Oshawa Generals in the 1964-65 and 1965-66 seasons.

The Spirit have six games remaining in the OHL season. They have clinched a playoff spot, sitting in first place in the OHL’s West Division.
