From her tiara to her bejewelled gown, Ann Kaplan Mullholland embraces the title Queen of the Castle.
Her royal duties involve buying a centuries-old castle in southern England and renovating it.
“I don’t know if it was a good idea, but we ended up doing it,” Kaplan Mulholland told CTV News. “It happened very quickly.”
Kaplan Mulholland is the star ‘Queen of the Castle,’ a reality series that debuts on CTV Life Channel on March 26.
It will be available for streaming on Crave the next day.
Lympne Castle’s origins date back to 1080, a history so rich it’s a Grade 1-listed heritage building, making renovations arduous and expensive.
“You have to have permission for everything, even to put a nail in the wall,” Kaplan Mulholland said.
She admits the contractors and staff at the castle thought she was crazy, but says that comes with the territory.
There were even some cultural clashes between the traditional British chefs and Kaplan Mulholland, who is a gluten-free vegan.
“If they thought I wasn’t fair or kind, that would be more concerning to me, but crazy’s fine,” she said.
