It was a major milestone last year for local singer-songwriter Kam Prada – a plaque from Spotify marking 10 million streams of his songs.
“Spotify’s great, but obviously the payout from these streaming platforms isn’t maybe as much as you would think. It looks amazing with the plaque,” Prada told CTV News.
One of those songs is Sid’s Song, dedicated to Prada’s grandfather, who passed away in April of 2024.
“I just kind of wanted to write a song as a sort of tribute to him, to his amazing life and all the sacrifices he made coming to this country as a refugee, sacrificing everything to give my parents the best life possible and in turn giving us the best life possible,” he said.
“It just kind of wrote itself. I knew exactly what I wanted to say.”
Prada is scheduled to perform at the Rise Up stage on Eighth Avenue S.W., weather permitting, as part of Chinook Blast on Saturday, Feb. 1.
