Some young Calgary students got to experience what it’s like to run the city on Friday.
Thirty local students in grades 9 to 12 ran a city council meeting, debated policy issues and worked with current members of council.

She Governs gives young women and gender-diverse youth the opportunity to learn how Calgary’s municipal government operates.
The idea is to educate and inspire future leaders.
“I’m interested in the law and political science fields but I know it’s a lot of work and long hours here so I guess we’ll see,” said Grade 10 student Soliyana.

The City of Calgary partners with Equal Voice Calgary for the annual event.
The organization advocates for equal representation of men and women in all levels of government.
