Calgary company Blackline Safety marked its 20th anniversary with a $20,000 donation to non-profit Threads of Life.

Calgary company Blackline Safety celebrated its 20th anniversary with a gift to a non-profit organization.

The company started with two people in 2005 but now employs 550. It keeps an eye on the safety of workers in 75 countries with connected safety wearables.

On Wednesday, Blackline’s CEP presented a cheque for $20,000 to Threads of Life, an organization that supports families after a workplace fatality, life-altering injury or occupational disease.

Threads of Life volunteer Jolene Gust lost her father in 1991 when he was electrocuted in a potash mine.

“In an instant my dad was gone, and the life that my family knew was now shattered. When a workplace incident occurs, it’s a huge ripple effect that leaves no one in its path saved,” Gust said.

In the past year, Blackline Safety has teamed up with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute to incorporate artificial intelligence into its services.
