Around 350 e-scooters have been set up throughout the city, with that number expected to grow as we get closer to summer.

This is the second year Bird Canada has operated in the southern Alberta city after winning a competitive tender process with the City of Lethbridge last year.

Bird Canada says it has added helmets to the scooters this year and is looking to expand availability throughout the season.

“Lethbridge is really great, just because there’s already a culture of kind of active mobility being used to get from point A to point B, and we just enable residents to get around in a way that they don’t need the car,” said Austin Spademan, Bird Canada head of government partnerships.

“And we see that, in terms of our usage. So, a lot of people think, when they think of a micro-mobility program, it’s just for tourists. That’s not the case. In fact, our active riders in Lethbridge last year had over three and a half rides per rider on average.”

Bird Canada will be at several events throughout the summer, including the Farmers Market and Whoop-Up Days, to educate and answer questions about micro-mobility.
