Honda Canada has announced a recall of roughly 17,000 vehicles due to a software glitch that could cause engines to stall on some models.
The recall affects 2023-2025 Honda Pilot, 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type S and 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type S models, a Wednesday release from the manufacturer reads.
Honda says the software issue affects the engine’s fuel injection system. Due to what the manufacturer calls “improper programming,” abrupt changes in throttle may cause the engine to “lose drive power, hesitate and/or stall.”
Honda notes that the issue may increase the risk of crash or injury, and that a software update to the system on affected vehicles is needed.
Owners may schedule an appointment at authorized dealers to have the system updated free of charge, the release reads. Registered owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by mail, and are encouraged to seek the repair as soon as they are notified.
A separate recall notice was published Wednesday regarding U.S. models of the Honda and Acura vehicles, with 295,000 affected, according to the release.
Honda Canada and American Honda say they have received no confirmed reports of crash or injury related to the issue.
