A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly getting into a fight with an officer in Orillia Thursday morning.
According to Orillia OPP, officers were dispatched to a mischief call just after 11:30 a.m. at a local restaurant. Police say a responding officer located a suspect walking near Front Street and Queen Street.
After the officer reportedly attempted to investigate and detain the suspect, police say the suspect began assaulting the officer and tried to spit in their face.
Police note that two civilians came to the officer’s aid in restraining the suspect until more officers arrived on scene.
The 26-year-old suspect of no fixed address was charged with causing a disturbance, resisting a peace officer, assaulting a police officer, two counts of mischief and six counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing. Police confirm that the officer did not report any injuries as a result of the altercation.
