As Simcoe Muskoka continues to recover from this past weekend’s ice storm, two of the region’s major school boards announced that some schools will be closed once again on Friday.
According to the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), the following schools will remain closed on Friday:
- Brechin Public School
- East Oro Public School
- Guthrie Public School
- Marchmont Public School
- Severn Shores Public School
- Shanty Bay Public School
- Uptergrove Public School
- W.R. Best Memorial Public School
The SCDSB confirms that all other schools will remain open, with classes and other programs set to operate as scheduled.
According to the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB), schools in Orillia and the District of Muskoka will be closed on Friday.
Orillia schools include St. Bernards, Monsignor Lee, Notre Dame, Patrick Fogarty and Foley, while Muskoka schools include Monsignor Michael O’Leary, St. Dominic, and Saint Mary.
The SMCDSB cited state of emergency orders by communities, intermittent power outages and no internet or phone service at the closed schools. They also confirmed that all other schools have re-opened for student learning.
The following Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) schools will also be closed on Friday:
- Glen Orchard Public School
- Honey Harbour Public School
- Cardiff Elementary School
- Ridgewood Public School
- I.E. Weldon Secondary School
As well as Wilberforce Elementary School and Jack Callaghan Public School which are closed due to overnight power outages.
