One serial food thief was busted by Barrie police.

On Wednesday afternoon, officers received a call after a man had allegedly entered a Wellington Street bakery and attempted to snatch some food items on display.

Officials say the suspect fled from the store and was last seen, on foot, heading towards Anne Street North.

Police found the 42-year-old walking through the parking lot of an Anne Street business just south of Dunlop Street West.

Officials say he tried to run from police but was stopped and taken into custody. According to police, he was caught with more food from another local establishment.

The man was held in custody for a bail hearing after being charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

While in custody, officers also confirmed that he was wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants held by Barrie Police.

Police would like to credit the bakery for the detailed description of the man, which resulted in the afternoon food bust.
