Less than 24 hours before the scheduled reopening of a portion of Harvie Settlement Road in Orillia, the City announced the closure would be extended for another month.

On Friday, the City stated the road would remain closed between University Avenue and the drive lane at 695 Harvie Settlement Road until April 14. It was initially scheduled to reopen Saturday.

Mayor Don McIsaac said the extended closure was due to safety concerns. “The safety of residents and motorists remains our top priority,” he said. “City crews are working diligently to improve road conditions, but given the volume of ice and the ongoing repairs required, we ask for the public’s patience as we complete the necessary work to ensure a safe reopening.”

Crews will address significant ice buildup, work to cut down snowbanks, and fill the many potholes created over the winter.

Full access to homes and businesses on Harvie Settlement Road via Diana Drive will be maintained during the extended closure.
