Three people are displaced after a fire broke out in an Orillia home, claiming the life of a dog.

Three people have been displaced, one dog perished, and a cat is missing after a fire broke out at a home in Orillia early Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials tell CTV News no one was home when a neighbour noticed smoke coming from the John Street house around 12:30 p.m. and called for help.

Fire crews with Orillia, Ramara and Severn arrived and quickly knocked down the blaze that started in the living room, but say the home is unsafe for the residents to return.

Deputy Chief Ashley Noganosh said the three displaced residents plan to stay with family.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
