A beloved staple at Orillia’s Mariposa Market is getting a new name, and the bakery is asking customers to weigh in.

The long-time favourite Texas Donut is up for a rebrand, with two potential names in the running: the ‘Canada Is Not For Sale Donut’ and the ‘Not From Texas Donut.’

The oversized treat is made using Canadian wheat flour, and the new name aims to give it a distinctly Canadian identity - while also taking a playful jab at the U.S. amid the escalating trade war with Canada.

The trade dispute between the neighbouring countries has grown tense since U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Canadian goods. Tariffs are taxes placed on imports. Trump’s 25 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminum imports took effect Wednesday.

Mariposa Market posted the name change on its social media page, and the comment section quickly filled with other name suggestions, including ‘The Great Canadian Donut,’ ‘We The North Donuts,’ ‘Dough Canada,’ and ‘The Mighty Canuck.’
