Police say a 59-year-old man from Milton drowned after falling through the ice in Muskoka.

One man lost his life after falling through ice on Lake of Bays.

On Saturday, Huntsville OPP, and emergency services responded to a call stating that a man had gone through ice near Baxter Lane in Algonquin Highlands Township.

Witnesses say the 59-year-old had been out on the ice retrieving stakes and was later discovered floating above the water.

Officials confirmed he was brought to shore where lifesaving measures were performed until paramedics arrived.

After countless efforts, police say the Milton man was not able to be revived and was pronounced dead.

Officials say this incident is not suspicious at this time.

OPP remind the community that no ice is safe ice. “Any travel on the current water/ice surface conditions, if any ice should even exist, should be wearing proper survival clothing/suit, having a fully charged cell phone along with telling a friend, neighbor, family member or work supervisor of your destination.”
