Fire at Bracebridge business causes ‘significant’ damage

Published:

Fire at a Bracebridge business forces an evacuation of several units.

Thick, black smoke could be seen for miles after a fire broke out at a Bracebridge business early Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to Mattresses of Muskoka on Monica Lane and evacuated the building, which houses several units.

According to a Sunday media release by the Town of Bracebridge, initial reports indicated that a boat was on fire in one of the units. The flames reportedly extended to multiple units in the building and caused significant damage.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The fire was extinguished by 7:30 p.m. according to the town.

Officials say Monica Lane was closed from Cedar Lane to Gray Road for several hours and was reopened once the fire was contained.

The Ontario Fire Marshal reportedly arrived at the scene on Saturday to investigate the cause of the fire.

The public is asked to continue avoiding the scene until further notice as the investigation remains ongoing.
