Temperatures will plummet across the region to start the weekend as a cold front moves through.
Environment Canada issued a warning about extreme cold temperatures near -20C on Saturday morning that mixed with 20 kilometre per hour winds will make it feel more like -30C.
The temperatures will remain frigid throughout the day Saturday under sunny skies. The chill in the air will persist into the afternoon with temperatures hovering around -15C.
“Extreme cold puts everyone at risk,” the agency stated.
Frostbite can occur within minutes on exposed skin.
“Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter,” Environment Canada added.
By Saturday evening and into the night, experts expect the extreme cold to begin to ease.
Daytime highs for Sunday are expected to be around -3C with a chance of flurries.
