Expert predicts how long will this warm weather last

It's a summer-like day in mid-October, with temperatures hitting 24C across Simcoe County, feeling more like 27C with the humidex. These daytime highs aren't unheard of, but they are definitely not the norm.

"We've been on a roll. September and October have been about two degrees warmer than normal, not hot, but delightfully mild," said Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips.

The weather specialist says the weather has been warmer and drier than typical for this time of year and believes it will likely remain that way for the next month.

And many are taking advantage of the warmer weather by hitting the links.

"It's been awesome with the fantastic forecast, so much demand. The course is packed, so we're lucky it's kind of like a little extra bonus for us at the end of the year," said Stephanie Sherlock with Simoro Golf Links in Barrie.

As for this winter, Phillips said models show we should expect more snow and cooler conditions due to La Nina.

"It won't be the winter from hell. I mean, it won't be nature trying to make up for what kind of winter we had last year, but I think, certainly going into it, it has a long way to go to be nasty kind of weather," Phillips said.
