County funds expanded access to health care for those living in poverty

A nurse practitioner-led clinic in Barrie expands its hours to support those living in poverty.

The County of Simcoe is providing funds to help expand an initiative to provide barrier-free health care to those facing financial pressures.

Compassionate Care Without Barriers (CCWB) is a nurse practitioner-led clinic in Barrie that supports those living in poverty who don’t have a health care provider.

“Many people in our community are denied the right to accessible health care. This is especially true for our neighbours who are unhoused, don’t have money, or don’t have OHIP. I am grateful that CCWB and Simcoe County are working to address this discrepancy, and I am excited to contribute to this effort,“ stated Dr. MacKenzie Chown with CCWB.

The clinic was previously open one day a week, but will now open its doors Monday to Thursday.

“By investing in community partners and programs such as this, the County of Simcoe is reinforcing our commitment towards building up the care, lives and hope of our most vulnerable residents,” noted County Warden Basil Clarke.

The clinic, located at Trinity Anglican Church at 24 Collier Street is open to appointments only Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
