The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is taking steps to help local businesses after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed this week he would impose 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian imports on Saturday.
“We understand the uncertainty that tariffs bring to businesses in Bradford West Gwillimbury,” said Mayor James Leduc.
On Friday, the Town issued a release stating it’s seeking input from business owners on the potential impacts tariffs would have on operations with a confidential survey.
The Town said its economic development team, led by the mayor and council, is working with local, provincial and federal partners to “navigate the potential changes.”
“Our team is committed to ensuring that our businesses remain resilient and competitive. By gathering feedback directly from our local businesses and collaborating with all levels of government, we can advocate effectively and explore every opportunity to mitigate any negative impacts. Together, we will face these challenges head-on and emerge even stronger.”
The Town also launched a dedicated web page that will include updates and information about the potential tariffs.
“We’re here to help, and we’ll continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure our community remains strong in the face of these challenges,” the mayor concluded.
