Barrie police stopped one driver only to find out he had over a dozen previous convictions for driving.

On Thursday, just after 1 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit were conducting a proactive stationary speed enforcement in the area of Anne Street North and Livingstone Street West.

During the speed enforcement, police allege a driver was travelling over the speed limit in a 40-kilometre-an-hour zone.

The driver, a 54-year-old Barrie resident, in addition to alleged speeding, was busted for reportedly driving while under suspension.

He was arrested, and after police investigated further, they confirmed he had over a dozen previous convictions for driving while under suspension and under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act.

To prevent him from further travels, his vehicle was towed and will remain impounded until the end of February.

Police remind residents to drive according to the posted speed limits and, remember, if there is no sign, the maximum speed that you can travel is 50-kilometres-an-hour.
