As March Break wraps up, Southern Georgian Bay OPP summarized several incidents on northern Simcoe County roads this week that resulted in drivers getting charged.

Alleged Suspended Driver

At around 4:30 p.m. in Midland this past Wednesday, OPP say an officer identified a suspected suspended driver through an automatic licence plate recognition (ALPR) device. The officer reportedly stopped the vehicle near William Street and Irwin Street.

OPP say the officer confirmed that the driver’s licence was indeed suspended and his vehicle was found to be uninsured.

The 31-year-old male driver from Tay Township was charged with driving while under suspension and driving a vehicle without insurance.

Alleged Impaired Driver

At around 2 p.m. on Thursday, OPP say they received a traffic complaint call about a suspect vehicle. An officer located the vehicle and entered an impaired driving investigation after speaking with the driver.

OPP say further investigation led to the seizure of a considerable amount of cannabis, and it was determined that the driver was allegedly driving while impaired.

The 47-year-old male driver from Severn Township was charged with impaired operation (alcohol and drugs), possession of more than 30 grams of dried cannabis in a public place, and possession of a Schedule I substance.

The accused is scheduled for a court date in late March. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his licence was suspended for 90 days.

Alleged Stunt Drivers

At around 9:30 p.m. this past Thursday, OPP say a patrolling officer noticed a silver Nissan SUV that was seemingly exceeding the posted 60 kilometre per hour speed limit while travelling south on County Road 93. OPP confirm that the officer clocked the vehicle at 131 kilometres per hour.

The officer then stopped the vehicle and investigated the young G2-licenced driver for stunt driving.

The 22-year-old male driver from Barrie was charged with speeding, stunt driving and failing to surrender his licence.

The accused is scheduled for a future court date. His vehicle was impounded for 14 days and his licence was suspended for 30 days.

Later that night at around 10 p.m. in Midland, OPP say that same officer noticed a silver Acura and a gray Hyundai seemingly racing against each other from the County Road 93 and Yonge Street intersection.

The officer stopped the two vehicles and investigated the two drivers for stunt driving.

Both G2-licenced drivers from Midland, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, were charged with stunt driving. Their vehicles were impounded for 14 days and their licenses were suspended for 30 days.

Both are scheduled for future court dates.
