Lucy the Lobster is a fixture in Nova Scotia’s South Shore and now she will gain a new host of fans thanks to a children’s book.
Lucy, who crawls out of the ocean every Feb. 2 to tell people if spring is on its way, is the focus of “Lucy the Lob’Star,” written by Pam Wamback.
“I’ve been a fan of Lucy since day one,” said Wamback, who has earned the title “The Lady Who Loves Lobster.”
Since 2018, Lucy has made spring predictions like the groundhog Shubenacadie Sam.
“She’s been fairly accurate, I have to say,” Wamback said.
The book is more than a fun lobster tale; it’s also educational.
“Did you know…they taste with their legs, those type of things,” she said. “Or how to tell a male from a female.
“It was kind of two-fold: Share this story in a more fun and whimsical way, but to put a spotlight on the area as well.”
The book will have its official launch at Captain Kat’s Lobster Shack in Barrington Passage on Saturday.
