Rich Knox hopes his new animated kids’ show is one of the most feel-good programs on the air.
“It’s very wholesome,” Knox told CTV News Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. “I’d like to think it’s, like, the most wholesome show on the air. That’s my goal.”
Knox is the director and creator of “Pa’tato and the Tot,” a children’s show that follows a father and son potato duo on Prince Edward Island.
“They’re a father and son potato team that goes around the Island doing good deeds for their fellow spuds and veggies,” Knox said. “I just like the way potato and tot sounded, so it really started with the title of a show and then everything went from there.”
Producer Jeana MacIsaac wanted the show to have an authentic P.E.I. feel.
“There’s the red beach, there’s the cliffs, people at sea on fishing boats,” MacIsaac said.
The entire show is a Maritime affair as it features music by Juno Award-winners The East Pointers and the voice of actor Jonathan Torrens.
“I said, ‘Jonathan, how do you feel about being a potato?’” MacIsaac said. “Literally 10 seconds later he messaged me back and he’s like, ‘I’ve been waiting months for you to ask me.’”
“Pa’tato and the Tot” is available for Bell FibeTV subscribers.
