Grab your bags and boards with holes in them: a first-ever cornhole tournament is coming to Prince Edward Island this month.

The American Cornhole Organization (ACO) says it will be hosting the first Canada Major tournament at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown in September. It will be part of the kickoff to the ACO’s 21st season.

The centre will host the tournament biannually for three years, with the next tournament happening in May 2026.

“This event not only brings a unique and exciting sport to our city but also reinforces our commitment to hosting diverse and dynamic events that contribute to our local economy while also bringing together our community,” said Charlottetown Mayo Philip Brown in a news release. “We look forward to welcoming players and fans from across North America this Fall to experience all that Charlottetown has to offer.”

The tournament will offer categories for professional and amateur players of all skill levels. There will be events for seniors, juniors, singles and doubles.

The ACO, which was established in 2005, is the world governing body for the sport of cornhole, which is a lawn game where players throw bean bags at an inclined board with a hole in it.

The tournament will run from Sept. 25 to 27.
