The Prince Edward Island and federal governments are spending more than $16 million on 46 new homes in Cornwall.

The Martha Village at 4555 Warren Grove will have a mix of two-and three-bedroom units, according to a news release from the P.E.I. government. Nineteen units will be affordable for residents on the social housing registry.

The federal government is pitching in $13,446,000 through the National Housing Strategy’s Affordable Housing Fund. The province is spending $3 million and the Town of Cornwall is contributing $500,000.

The Sisters of Saint-Martha is offering $800,000 and the Kings Square Affordable Housing Corporation is spending $225,000.

“Cornwall is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the country and this funding from all levels of government and partners is an important step to increase both the availability and affordability of housing for our residents,” said Health and Wellness Minister Mark McLane in the release. “Through our provincial housing strategy, we will continue working with all partners to create a variety of housing solutions that meet the current and future needs of our province.”
