A P.E.I. woman who was the subject of a missing persons report on Monday was found but later died in hospital, according to RCMP.

In a news release Tuesday, police say they responded to a call of a missing 51-year-old Harrington woman around 3:45 p.m.

Police say they learned the vehicle of the woman was found in the P.E.I. National Park at Brackley Breach. A search was immediately started by the RCMP.

Police say the woman was found in the water by a Coast Guard helicopter just before 8 p.m. and brought to shore by boat.

The force says the woman was taken to hospital where she later died.
