Suspected live grenade seized from home: Bridgewater police

A suspected live grenade was among the weapons found during the search of a home in Bridgewater, N.S., earlier this week.

A suspected live grenade was among the weapons found during the search of a home in Bridgewater, N.S., earlier this week.

Bridgewater Police Service executed a search warrant at the home on Thomson Drive on Tuesday.

Police say they found two handguns, ammunition and a suspected live grenade hidden inside the home.

Matthew Jordan Corkum is facing the following charges:

  • having an explosive substance with intent to endanger life
  • two counts of failing to comply with a release order (possessing a weapon and possessing drugs)
  • five counts of possession of prohibited firearm, ammunition or explosive while prohibited by order
  • two counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes
  • two counts of careless storage of a firearm
  • four counts of possession of a firearm without a licence
  • possession of a restricted firearm with accessible ammunition

Police say Corkum has five previous firearms-related convictions.

“He has been on four different Firearms Prohibition Orders since 2011, is currently under a Lifetime Firearms Ban, and was on two separate Court Release Orders to reside in the community while facing earlier outstanding charges,” reads a news release from Bridgewater Police Service.

Corkum was scheduled to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on Wednesday.
