A 52-year-old Nova Scotia man is facing human trafficking-related charges.

The RCMP says officers learned of a person committing human trafficking offences in the Truro area as part of an ongoing investigation.

Aaron Keith MacKenzie was arrested on Wednesday.

The Truro man has been charged with:

  • human trafficking
  • receiving a financial benefit from human trafficking
  • procuring a person to provide sexual services
  • advertising sexual services

MacKenzie was remanded into custody and scheduled to appear in Truro provincial court on Friday.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.

They add Nova Scotia has the highest rate of human trafficking incidents in Canada.

“Know the signs,” says Sgt. Jeff MacFarlane with the Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit.

“If you or someone you know is in a controlling relationship, withdrawing from family and friends, or being forced to do unwanted things, reach out to police.”

The RCMP says tips can also be made anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
