Man charged with attempted murder after two people stabbed in Millbrook, N.S.

A man is facing 16 charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly stabbed two people, robbed a gas station, and fled from police in Millbrook, N.S., Wednesday afternoon.

The RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a home on Coach Road around 1:45 p.m. They learned the suspect had stabbed and robbed a man and then stabbed a woman before fleeing the scene in the male victim’s vehicle.

The 64-year-old man and 41-year-old woman, both from Truro, N.S., were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A short time later, police learned the suspect had robbed a nearby gas station and fled the scene.

The RCMP says officers quickly found the vehicle around Exit 10 on Highway 102, where it crashed into the ditch.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene. They say the 40-year-old Truro man had two knives in his possession.

Harry Arthur Cope has been charged with the following offences:

  • attempt to commit murder (two counts)
  • aggravated assault (two counts)
  • assault with a weapon (two counts)
  • uttering threats (two counts)
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • robbery (two counts)
  • failure to comply with a probation order (four counts)

Cope was held in custody and was set to appear in Truro provincial court on Thursday.

Police say the three people involved in the incident all know each other.

The investigation is ongoing.
