An 18-year-old man is facing an assault charge in connection to an attack on two women in downtown Halifax last summer.

Const. Martin Cromwell, public information officer with the Halifax Regional Police, says officers have charged the man with assault causing bodily harm.

Police say they responded to two people who were injured on Argyle Street around 1:50 a.m. on June 23, 2024. They learned a group allegedly attacked the pair.

Emma MacLean, in a previous interview with CTV News Atlantic, said a group of men attacked her and her girlfriend that night. MacLean said the group pushed her girlfriend onto cement stairs and punched and kicked her.

Last August, police chief Don MacLean said he anticipated the investigation into the assault would wrap up soon.

“There was a lot of information that needed to be gathered and not everything is like it’s portrayed on social media,” he said at the time.
