Seafood plant fire in Cape John, N.S., under investigation

Several departments responded to a large fire at a seafood plant in Cape John, N.S., Wednesday night.

The cause of a large fire at a seafood plant in the River John area of Nova Scotia Wednesday night is under investigation.

Crews from several departments responded to the fire on Cape John Road in Cape John around 9 p.m.

The plant processes crab and seafood, according to the community’s website.

Residents said there was a significant amount of smoke in the area and there were also reports of a power outage.

Photos posted online appear to show the entire structure engulfed in flames.

Police say no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation in partnership with the Office of the Fire Marshal, the RCMP says.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call the Pictou County District RCMP at 902-485-4333.
