More than $62 million is being spent by the federal and provincial government to build 160 new, affordable homes in Upper Hammonds Plains, N.S.
The Woods development will feature 160 two-bedroom unit homes at 430 Pockwock Rd., which is close to schools, parks and a community centre.
It will be operated by Osprey Inspiration, a Bedford-based not-for-profit. Its president says it fulfills a critical need for sustainable, affordable housing.
“While projects of this magnitude are often complex and resource-intensive, this development exemplifies the strength of collaboration between government agencies, private enterprises, and nonprofit organizations,” said Derrick Chan in a Thursday news release.
“All stakeholders should take pride in this achievement, but the greatest impact will be felt by the tenants we are privileged to serve.”
The federal government is spending more than $57 million on the project through the Affordable Housing Fund, while the province is spending more than $5 million through the Nova Scotia Affordable Housing Development Fund.
“This collaborative effort will ensure that there is affordable housing in Upper Hammonds Plains for decades to come,” said Development Minister Colton LeBlanc.
