N.B. RCMP say a man was killed in a home invasion on Thursday.

Police say a fatal home invasion in Berry Mills, N.B., led them to issue an Alert Ready message in the province early Thursday morning.

The RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Isaiah Road around 5:50 a.m.

Police say three people forced their way into the home. A man and a woman, both in their 30s, were inside and an altercation ensued.

One man died, but police have not said whether the man was a suspect or someone inside the home. He has not been identified.

When officers arrived, two suspects had already fled the scene in a black 2018 Dodge Ram 2500, according to an RCMP news release.

In an email to CTV News, police confirmed no arrests have been made at this time.

Police issued the Alert Ready message around 7:30 a.m., warning that two men were “carrying a firearm with dangerous intent” in Berry Mills, a community northwest of Moncton.

Investigators later said they also believed a light-coloured Ford F150 was involved in the home invasion.

They also initially identified one of the suspects as 50-year-old Leo Carrier. However, they later said he was “no longer being considered as a suspect.”

Alert Ready ends

The Alert Ready has now ended. Investigators believe the home invasion was a targeted incident and there is no longer a risk to the general public.

However, police say they are still looking for the two pickup trucks.

“We are looking to speak with anyone who was travelling in the Berry Mills area during the early morning hours of February 6, 2025,” said Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP in a news release.

“If you have dash-cam or other video footage from the area at the time of the incident, please call the police.”

Anyone with information about the incident or anyone who believes they have seen one of the trucks is asked to contact call 911. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Neighbour heard gunshots

RCMP vehicles could be seen outside a home on Isaiah Street Thursday morning.

Members of the Southeast District RCMP were still on scene at a home on Berry Mills Road early in the afternoon.

Frederic Ward lives next door to the home and saw two or three police cars early Thursday morning.

“I heard a gunshot just before six o’clock,” said Ward.

Shane MacPherson lives right across the street, but said he didn’t hear any gunshots.

“I heard the alert go off. I got up and my wife said there were six or seven RCMP officers across the street. People in the community [Facebook] group were posting that squad cars were going up and down the road,” said MacPherson.

MacPherson said it’s a very quiet area.

“Beautiful, quiet. Everybody keeps to themselves. Very communal. We don’t have problems out here,” said MacPherson.

Laurie Urquhart was taking her dog for a walk up Isiah Road just before noon.

“When I got up around seven or so I saw four police cars coming back this way and I know my neighbours saw a bunch rushing this way this morning. Told to lock our doors this morning and stuff, so we’ve all done that,” said Urquhart.

Several schools were placed under hold and secure Thursday as a precaution due to the ongoing situation.

Correction

The N.B. RCMP said at one point the men may have been in the Fredericton area. They later clarified that was an error.
