A 40-year-old man from Mundleville, N.B., has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of a child in the community.
Richibucto RCMP responded to a report of a sexual assault on Monday.
Police located and arrested Andrew Hebert the following day at a residence on Route 495 in Mundleville. He was remanded into custody.
Hebert appeared in Moncton provincial court Wednesday by tele-remand and was charged with:
- sexual assault on a person under the age of 16
- invitation to sexual touching
- sexual interference
- indecent act
- sexual assault causing bodily harm
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court Friday for a bail hearing.
Early in the investigation, police say they learned Hebert may have committed similar offences against other people.
“This is still an active investigation, and we are actively working to identify any additional victims,” said Richibucto RCMP Sgt. Guillaume Bélanger in a news release.
“We want to ensure that individuals are aware that a sexual assault complaint can be made at any time.”
Anyone who is a victim, or has information related to the alleged incidents or similar ones, is asked to contact their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
