N.B. EMO monitoring multiple ice jams throughout the province

The Emergency Measures Organization is tracking multiple ice jams in New Brunswick.

New Brunswick’s Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) is monitoring multiple ice jams throughout the province, including around Perth-Andover and Woodstock.

An ice jam in Perth-Andover developed on Friday afternoon, growing to become a few kilometres long. EMO says the jam caused water to cover some local roads, but levels have since receded.

An ice jam in Woodstock also closed some local roads over the weekend, which have since re-opened.

Both ice jams on the Saint John River are still in place as of Monday evening.

EMO says it’s also tracking an ice jam on the Tobique River, which has forced some families to evacuate their homes, and another jam in Connors affecting properties in Madawaska County.

EMO says cooler temperatures this week shouldn’t cause much of a significant impact to river systems throughout the province but will likely cause existing ice jams to remain in place until it gets warmer.

The organization says residents who live near waterways should be vigilant, as ice jams can form quickly and raise water rapidly.
