New Brunswick singer-songwriter Kylie Fox is bringing her latest album, Sequoia, to 11 stages across the Maritimes this spring as part of the “There Are Only So Many Great Nights” tour.
“The vibe of the album is singer-songwriter,” Fox told CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. “But there’s a couple songs that are like little jazzy bop songs. There are some songs that are kind of an alt-rock vibe.”
Fox said the album explores themes of gratitude and the title track is one of her favourites.
“I heard on the news of a sequoia tree that was on fire,” Fox said. “The story told of how firefighters were up all night trying to save the tree. It just certainly is funny how we can go through life, and we appreciate the trees but we’re not going to go out of our way to look after them. Like a lot of beautiful things that we care about, until they’re on fire.”
Fox said she set out to write a record about gratitude and remembering to care for those things that we want to persist.
“I love telling the stories behind the songs”, Fox said. “I love sharing, connecting, and creating and I think that when you approach anything with love and with grace then your outcome will be bountiful and will connect with someone.”
Fox will perform the record in its entirety at every show but she said she wants audiences to have a unique experience.
“Once you bring a show live, it’s much more than just the music. It’s the audience. It’s the space you’re in. It’s the color of the lights. It’s the temperature. It’s what you’re drinking, who you came with. There’s a lot more to it”.
